Graffiti area/wall between Lewisville and Southlake? - 11-02-2010, 07:00 AM

I'm looking for an area or wall covered in graffiti. Even a mural would work. I'm looking for a place somewhere between Lewisville and Southlake/Grapevine. I want to do an urban type shoot.... Maybe with a motorcycle. I'm thinking leather, torn denim, and alternative style posing for this shoot if that helps with visualization. Does anyone know of any such locations and have beent here recently enough to know it's still there? Thanks for the help!

I don't know of anything around this area. Your best bet might be to head to Deep Ellum

graff artists like to keep their locales secret. If you happen to know any artists, I'd ask them, some skater kids might even know.

Otherwise, drive into some seedy hoods and look down allies, under bridges, behind warehouses or buildings that run up against traintracks... or any sort of off-the-beaten-path areas... if you find one tag, you'll find another.

A lot of concrete slabs under underpasses or along creeks are places that graffiti artists like to tag, where they are out of the way from the casual eye and like Patrick said backs of warehouses that face rr tracks or alleyways. Over the last couple of years so many local govts have taken on the idea that any graffiti is bad and they usually fine property owners who don't clean it up quickly off of their buildings and if they don't comply within a couple weeks they will send in a crew to either scrub the work off or paint over it.

If you want some ideas of what can be seen in Deep Ellum you can look here. Art In and Around Deep Ellum Photo Gallery by pgkps at pbase.com
There have been some additional works added by the large slabs on the bridge supports that I have shot but have not had the time to upload so there is actually more in the area now than in the album. (I would bet that a few more in the dog park area will be done in the next few months).

Yeah, I actually know a local graff crew that's going to allow me to video them on an outing... but since it's so illegal, I have a lot of limitations on how I can shoot, mainly just not giving away the location in any way.

you might also check around any art schools or urban type museums. while it is illegal to tag anything, some property owners actually get permits to have graff artists paint murals on the sides of their buildings.

I went to the art institute in Denver and we had a wall dedicated to graffiti near our courtyard, in the alley :).. it was always tastefully done without extra tags being put over existing artwork.
