Thanks,

It didn't take long; less than 3 months this time.

Once a nice location is announced on this forum every Tom, Dick and Harriett will suddenly start appearing at the location. People get bothered, things get damaged. Next thing you know they are charging a fee or banning photography altogether.

Lesson: If you find a great free location and want to keep it that way. Don't share it!

I live very near by and will check this out today. The only place in Adriatica that I noticed had a notice posted about getting a photography permit was the new wedding chapel that just opened.

I will check this out today and let you know what I find out.

Speaking as a photographer, and as someone who runs one of these sites, I can tell you it's very true. It does not take many people who are abusing the system to ruin it for everyone else!!!

I got the same info as Chantel but I tried to call the developer to confirm and there is not a good way to get in touch. I'm heading out there next weekend to do a shoot so I guess I'll find out soon enough if it's true, but I completely agree on how sad it is when people ruin a great location for everyone else.

Quit whining. It may not necessarily be due to bad behavior. Sometimes just the shear number of polite photographers can become problematic. C'mon, we'd charge if it were us.

I am just curious as to where the information comes from? Everyone seems to say "I heard you have to pay" but no one seems to have solid information...

It is private property, and the developers choice to charge a fee... so be it, Paying for just about everything is a fact of doing business today. I do not shoot there that often myself, but it is what it is.

If I owed a property and more and more people were coming to use it as a set, I might charge a fee too. Wear and tear and the nuisance factor may be a part of it, but if I can make a buck, why not? That may also be part of the idea here.

I heard it through a photography group newsletter, they said nothing was confirmed and I called the developer and the sales office and haven't received a response, if the rumor is correct they are tracking people down on the property asking for payment on the spot so as I said I'll find out soon enough!

I don't shoot there that often either but you always want to be prepared when taking clients somewhere for a shoot so your not blind sided and so you can charge properly.

I heard this rumor last Spring so I contacted Linda Visser, Chief Financial Officer for the Blackard Group (Adriatica leasing), and she said there is not a fee for photographers "as long as you stay out of the buildings," meaning that if you wanted to use the interior of a building or an unoccupied space, there would be a fee. No fee for photographing on the grounds. So, unless something has changed I'll be there this weekend.

The only fee is for shooting at the wedding chapel. Otherwise you are free to shoot anywhere on the property.

I had contacted the developer last year and he informed me that there was no fee, but to please not to go into the belltower or the chapel. He said if that was abused, they would consider starting to charge. If I go out there, I have a copy of his email to me in my bag. I always shoot outside, but for our personal Christmas portraits I did go into the Castel building on the weekend to use the staircase. Someone did come ask if I had permission to shoot inside, and I showed her the email and she told me since I had his permission it was ok to keep shooting, but I definitely got the feeling they didn't want people in there. It's their office building, I don't blame them for not wanting their clients disturbed.

Just called their office. The permit fee for outdoor shooting is $50 per day. This does not include the chapel which is separate private property and the fee there is $200.
