Unexpected starburst effect - 12-25-2005, 10:09 PM

Using my Sigma 18-50 f/2.8 EX, I took a few shots tonight of Christmas lights and displays in Grapevine. In reviewing my images, the streetlights appear with a starburst effect. Any idea what's going on?

Thanks, Pete. I didn't include images but have found my answer: The more the lens is stopped down, the more pronounced the starburst effect.
