Medieval Times?? - 12-27-2005, 06:07 PM

We are being asked to go along with some family to Medieval times tomorrow. I am thinking about bringing along my camera, and wanted to see if anyone here had been successful taking pictures there.

I was thinking about taking a 50 1.4 and an 85 1.8 since I know the lighting is probably absurdly low. (I do have a 70-200 2.8 IS, but I was thinking that I wouldn't take it due to its size (and the attention using it gets me.))

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Alan

Do a search in this forum for medieval times and you will find some shots and info that Roy posted a while back.

Perhaps I don't understand how to do a search. I just did and the only two hits I got was my message and your reply. Can you please help me make a search?

Thanks,

Alan

It turns out that when I use the "search" button up top I found it, but when I used the "quick search" I didn't. Hmmm.

Thanks,

Alan

I'm a little late to help but the links provided show some of the shots I got and all I used was a 28-75mm 2.8 Tamron on my Canon 20D. Most of the time I had ISO at 800 and apeture priority set at 2.8. Those two lenses you listed should be fine. You don't really need the 70-200 unless you want some shots of the King and Princess up on their pedestal. Our seats were to the right of center arena on the entrance side. The toughest shots are going to be during "the games" with the horses running on some games and the joust. Eating with your hands can get a little messy, they will bring a towel but you might not want to wait so bring a couple of handiwipes or something. Hope that helps a little. You should be able to get some great shots with those lenses. Look forward to you posting some up. You can expect to have a good time. The whole event is for your entertainment.
Hope you get a nice winch for serving your dinner!

Oh yeah, when the sporting events start and they are doing the joust and using other weapons there will be a net mesh that will fall and it's going to be much harder to get good focus thru that net.

Not too late at all, I am going tonight. I have a 28-70 2.8 as well. I wonder if I should take it?

What are your thoughts?

thanks,

Alan

Alan, I would suggest you take it. I took my whole arsenal in except for my 70-200. I used the 28-75 the whole time. Be ready to have a good time
