Help needed to get the best out of it... - 04-05-2011, 07:54 AM

Hi,

I'm here in the Dallas on a business trip for one week. I would like to spend the evenings for shooting pictures. But where are the best locations?
I would like to get the Dallas skyline, and some typical Texas-pictures.
I read about the Trinity River Overlook. Is this a good spot to go?
Is it worth to go to the FW Stockyard Rodeo?
Any other recommendations?

And, is it dangereous to go out with camera at the eveing or night in Downtown Dallas?

Any hint is more than welcome!

Thanks a lot

Kind regards,
Andreas

The stockyards in Fort Worth will give you a little of Texas flavor, of how it use to be that is. I enjoy going there. Long horns and old buildings...

As for Dallas, I cannot help you, I'm a Fort Worth Girl. But do make it to Daley Plaza (where JFK was shot), it's an interesting walk back in time.

Welcome to Texas! :)

If you go to the stockyards, you should walk across 23rd street (on the south side of all the actual stockyards buildings). There is a little ranch style location that has old farm looking houses, lots of cactus, train tracks, etc. You could get some good Texas-style pictures there. It's called River Ranch and if you'll google River Ranch, Fort Worth, Texas it'll give you the exact location. I took these there...

Hope you enjoy your trip here!

Do you need any permissions to shoot here?? Beautiful photos.

((Edit)) Went to this little house today. The ranch gates were closed but was a space you could just walk through. Didn't look like they were really trying to keep anyone out. Didn't see any keep out or no trespassing signs anywhere. Just "Beware of Dog" but didn't see a dog... haha. Also, the right window does not have a top panel anymore. The curtain flies out but it wasn't a problem for me.

I don't think you do.

I did the same thing... walked through the little space :) I felt like it was okay because once there, I saw a couple other ways to get in that were very open.
