Grapevine lake parks - 04-11-2011, 09:34 PM

I was wondering if any of you can recommend a Grapevine lake park with a good unobstructed sunset view. I know that I have to pay to get in and didn't want to try them all. I did a search on the site and did not find anything.

The parks are free... They close after sunset or 9pm I believe.

Rockledge Park on the Flower Mound side of the lake charges a $5 entrance fee. This park is leased by the City of Grapevine. You should be able to photograph a sunset, using the red sandstone outcrops as your foreground.

Murrell Park has a few nice spots along its shoreline for sunset shots. As far as I know, this park is still administered by the CORP. Even though there is a gatehouse at the park entrance, I don't think they are charging an entrance fee (perhaps someone else can verify this). I believe they only charge a fee for camping at this park.

Last I saw, Rockledge Park was closing at 5 (maybe that was earlier in the year), but it was still before sunset. I got a gorgeous sunset shot there on top of the rocks before they implemented the time cut-off. I haven't checked back since to see if it had changed.

I believe Rockledge is open at least until 8. We were there not long ago, but with the kids we didn't stay long enough to get kicked out.

I was there today, they close at 8. However I was harrassed today! The guy told me I wasn't allowed to have "that kind" of camera in the park. He asked me if I was a professional, I told him no. There are no signs posted or anything around the park. I have a contact in the Grapevine Parks and Recreation, I am going to call her tomorrow and ask about this.

Sorry to hear about you being harassed at Rockledge. Its been happening to other photographers as well. Grapevine Parks Dept has been informed, but I believe they are ignoroing these concerns. I think this concern is being addressed at the FW chapter of the PPA. We'll see what happens.
