This was an amazing event from beginning to end! The day started out around 9:00am with a pseudo training camp for kids where there were about seven different stations where the MLB Legends would teach the kids things like throwing, running, bating, fielding, et cetera.
I was only able to narrow down my photos to around 316 out of the 832 total images taken between 9:30am and 4:30pm. Oh, and it was really HOT on Saturday! In addition to the awesomeness that is meeting MLB legends, we got to meet a legend of a different stripe... Mr. Brad Newton... the Texas Rangers' 27-year veteran photographer. Brad, Joe, and I were the only photographers there. Actually, there were a few others there for a bit but mainly just we three for the entirety.
Here are just a few images, processed to MY liking and how I felt they would be best portrayed... you may have a different view. I'm approaching this thread with a documentary-like feel instead of "these are the best images" feel.
Oakland A's veteran Bert "Campy" Campaneris teaching some kids how to play short stop:
Autographed, hand-made, vintage baseballs that were used to raise money for the Get In The Box charity... notice the date and location on the ball:
Oakland A's veteran Rollie "Rolaids" Fingers in contemplative thought:
Manny "Scraps" Gonzalez of the Vintage 9 team. I processed this image to how I felt it would appear if it were in the 1880s... of course, I'm just guessing!
Vernon "Rembrandt" Wells was quite active as you can see from the next few shots:
Bill "Spaceman" Lee was a serious character and could almost never be seen without a smile on his face!
Umpire Shane Sellers... a real stand-up gentleman!
There are just too many amazing shots of this day to show in a single thread... I'll let Joe chime in and show you his side of the story.
Hope you enjoy!
