Vintage/Rustic service stations or storefronts - 04-28-2011, 04:42 PM

Anybody know of any vintage/rustic gas stations or storefronts in the North Dallas / Plano / Frisco / Allen area? I'm looking for a place to do some shoots with my classic car.

Thanks.

You probably need to get away from the city. There is a stone service station building in Bowie or Decatur. Photos of it were posted on this forum. Hopefully someone here can fill in the blanks. I drove through St. Joe and Nocona awhile back. They are the real deal. Not upgraded or modernized at all.

There is at least one in Pilot Point. I haven't checked it out, but I've seen pictures.

A bit far from N Dallas, but Archer City (south of Wichita Falls).

restored gas station at the blinking light intersection. You can pretend you are in "The Last Picture Show" movie. the pool hall building is right across the street and still looks like it did in the movie.

If you go to Decatur you might as well go to Archer City too.

As for Pilot Point, I don't know of a station that is restored, but there is a real run-down one off the SE corner of the square. You could always try the old bank on the NW side of the square, it was in the movie "Bonnie and Clyde".

Wayne is right on about Nocona and St Jo.

Mineral Wells has a very rustic gas station, but is not close to the area you are looking for.

That Pilot Point location is actually restored now. They have restored not only the building but the pumps too.

Waxahachie has a very nice vintage gas station about two blocks north of the courthouse and I have photographed several amazing portraits there.

That town (Pilot Point) is a treasure trove of photography possibilities. Old murals, old buildings, old cars, and a beautiful cemetery.
