Nice photos Ryan, and there is nothing wrong with a point and shot camera. It's your interest in photograhy that is important here. I really like the top one but if it were mine I would crop the right side where there are part of Mom is showing, but that's just my thoughts. Nice color and lighting.

Looks good Ryan, I've added a bit to it here just to show a different way to present it. Not a better way, just different.
