Grapevine Lake Sunset - 01-08-2006, 11:10 PM

Shot this out at the lake a couple of weeks ago. It's one of several exposures, but I think it's my favorite. Very simple, but for some reason I like it.

Comments welcome, positive or negative.

I like this, but I keep thinking it can be improved.

I can't explain why, but my eye keeps roaming to the right side expecting to see more. I think maybe because this photo screams panoramic to me but it isn't shot as one.

Maybe try cropping it, so there is less of the water. Hmmm. I tried the envelope cropping on the screen. (hold up two envelopes) I might play with it some and see if you get a stronger image or if the cropping of the tree weakens it. Hmmmm.

Thanks for the distraction this morning!

Thanks, Alan. I appreciate the comments. Since I'm so accustomed to shooting events (people just doing stuff), the more "artsy" photography escapes me at times. I'll work on both this image and my skills.

In a park on the northeast shore of the lake. I forgot the name of it, but it's the park that's on the left after crossing the dam from the southern side. It was my second time out there hoping for a magnificent sunset. I will keep trying.

Let me know the next time you are heading out there. I live about 5 minutes from there and would love to come out and shoot with you!

John, I like the shot but I'm not a photographer and don't know anything about art.
You might want to photoshop out the bouy. If you can get there on a calm day and
get the reflection of the sun on the water it would be awesome.

Shane, I tried your site earlier from dfw wake and the only picture that shows is the
first one, all the others only show the thumbnails. Congrats on the new boat!
I'm very new to photo stuff so what do you think ..... Do you think any of the photo
guys/gals would be so hard up to take pics they would tolerate going out to take
borading pics (mind you neither of us are any good). If you want a pull or photo
op :) .... Current plan is Thur. 2:00, 2:30 or 3:00 (haven't finalized yet).

Reflection of the sun on the water would be really nice. Clear and calm sounds like a summer evening. I'll have to wait for that one. :-)

Thanks!
