*UPDATE* - I've confirmed with David. Thanks for the help!

Hey folks:

I've been playing PM and phone tag with David, so I imagine he's really busy. I need to shoot with a client tomorrow morning in a studio, but can't confirm with David, so I'm looking for a backup studio. Anyone know any other studios that might be available tomorrow that don't cost an arm and a leg? I have my own equipment .. but just no background stuff.

Thanks so much!

Rosalyn

Don't know anything about it.. I just bookmarked it once when I was looking for studios to rent... there are still a sad lack of them on the Arlington/Fort Worth side of town.

If I ever win the lottery I will be building one heck of a studio for photographers to use. But alas I do not have the funds for what I would like to do.

I have used Dallas Darkroom once. One large shooting area. Worked out pretty well. Rental rates aren't too bad unless you want lights. Why does everyone want to beat you up on lights? They had a couple monos and a backdrop and didn't bother you during tyour shoot. I would use them again if I had the need to shoot on the east side of Dallas.

Anyway, there are (at least a few months ago) open on Sundays too which is a bonus for a lot of weekend shooters.

Dallas Darkroom - 01-12-2006, 10:43 PM

I have had a lot of interface with Mike Blackwell and the Dallas Darkroom (no, not another Harry Potter Book ). I took a couple of classes there and have used the studio three times. You can have the use of a grey mottled strike but you will need to bring your own white paper background. However, the walls can be used as background since they are slightly off-white; one of them is lightly textured. He has some interesting props like old doors, but only a few chairs. You may want to bring something of your own.

No, he does not disturb you whatsoever. Mike is a very experienced photojournalist and a true professional. BTW, the darkroom is well appointed; for a darkroom (I have expressed my views of darkroom before ).

He has quite a few classes there and is very instructive; he always has a field trip which can be interesting--like the West End at night at Christmas. Some of his classes: Darkroom (beginning and advanced), Basic Photog, Digital Photoog, Still Life, Landscapes, People and a one-day 8-hour Figure Study Workshop.

Just thought I would add my 2 cents worth.
