I really like that shot, and I know the area well--that was shot off the top of the parking garage near the AMC, correct? I've been hassled by the local security for shooting from there before.

I've got a question for all of you that shoot in downtown Ft. Worth. Have any of you set up tripods or monopods out on the street? I work downtown and would love to go play with some longish-exposure shots, but I'm not sure whether that's something the police will hassle me about. I know that handheld shots are no problem, but do I need a permit or something to set up a tripod?

Nice shot, I like the use of a small aperture to give you the star patterns on the lights.

@Jehos,

I've set my Tripod up lots of time DT FW. I have also been approached by the Cops once. As long as you stay out of the main traffic on the sidewalk, no one will bug you. If fact, having a tripod actually works to your benefit sometimes. It tells a passerby, "hey, I'm working here." and people usually stay out of your hair and shot.

The Cop thing is a long story, but they'll just ask some questions about your activities and will leave you be.

Thanks for the info. I'm not concerned about talking to the cops--I understand that they've got a job to do which is more difficult post-9/11. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't actually breaking any laws by setting up a tripod to shoot the buildings and streets. My dad's a professional videographer and he was telling me one time about Washington D.C. Apparently there it's illegal to shoot anything with a tripod without a permit--I guess it's to prevent the streets and walkways from being overrun with people setting up tripods to shoot national monuments.

normally they wont hassle you at all as long as you stay out of traffic and as long as you are not on private property. If you are in a public place you have every right to be there and they are cool about it. now the bass hall parking garge is indeed private property. I didnt get anyone hasseling me because I stayed out of peoples way and no one actually complained about me! hehe yeah was in the bass hall parking across from the hall after 5pm.
