Call Field Museum - 06-06-2011, 04:38 AM

Hey Norman,
Something alot closer is the Call Field Museum at the Kickapoo airport in Wichita Falls. Go on a day of the flight of the Jennie(about once a month). Only one plane(WWI),some vintage military trucks, and the members dress in era uniforms. I've taken some interesting shots there.
Regards,
Guy

What Museum are you talking about. There are several aircraft museums in the DFW area but none devoted to WWII aircraft that I am aware of. All of the museums do have some WWII planes, as well as other period planes.
There is the Museum at Meacham Airport in Ft. Worth. The Museum at Love Field, and the Cavanaugh Museum at Addison Airport. Addison has the most WWII planes. Frontiers of Flight at Love field the least. All are camera friendly, so you won't have any issue taking pictures.

That Kickapoo Airport reference dates me I soloed a J-3 from Kickapoo Airport spring of 1953. Was at Sheppard AFB, at the time.
Cavanaugh's Museum at Addison Airport. I have been at least a half a dozen times in the last 8 years. Excellent, I say this as an ex-USAF crew chief/flight chief in SAC and the reserves.
Additionally they have some Korean War and RVN era aircraft. Those planes not under going maintenance are airworthy except for maybe the Thud-F-105. There are some airworthy WWI replicas. Every plane is kept in prime shape. There were some German combat aircraft a Me109 and a Spanish AF CAF 111 painted to represent a He 111.
All above if my memory is accurate.

Cavanaugh Flight Museum - Addison Airport, Dallas, Texas

There are four hangars/buildings plus the ramps, additionally there is an excellent WWII aviation art display.
Cavanaugh Flight Museum:
4572 Claire Chennault St
Addison, TX 75001-5321 -- 972-380-8800

Claire Chennault St is only on the airport side of Westgrove Dr, If you reach AMELIA EARHART DR you've gone about 0.1 miles too far

Cavanaugh is very photographer friendly. Normal admission for regular entry or $50 for behind the ropes access.
