Nikonian Get Together (Postponed) - 01-18-2006, 01:18 PM

I'm starting a new thread so this doesn't get buried.

I would like to see the availability of people for the date in the thread title. I can get a conference room in SW Fort Worth (a haul for some of you, I know) for the above date. I need to know a number of people that would be willing to show up on this date. I can have the conference room for 8 hrs so the start and stop times are negotiable.

I know this date is rather soon, but if it isn't that weekend, then this thing won't happen until early March (which is okay if that's the group consensus). Between the Super Bowl, Scott's workshop, and 2 shoots my February is full.

If I can get ~20 people to commit, the cost will be @ $12 per person (cost of renting the space). There's a little padding in the cost for Pizza and drinks (or something along those lines).

For those attending, please list any gear you are willing to bring.

The rooms are outfitted with digital projectors, and I will see if we can get the use of it. If anyone is willing to bring their laptop please PM me. I'd like to go through some quick work flow examples of NEF to Print, do some ACR calibration demos, maybe even share a few helpful hints in PS.

We can use the time to discuss tips for using our gear, camera settings, what works best where, and maybe a little Q & A.

I also hope to have enough speed lights to do some Creative Lighting System demos.

In the end, this should be a good excuse to see and touch some gear most of us can't afford, meet some members, and maybe learn a few things.

I will try to get a more formal time table of events setup and posted.

The original thread is here for more info:

That sounds like fun, put me on the list. I'm new here, but I'd like to meet you all. My gear is humble, just a D50, 18-70mm f/3.5-4.5 DX and 50mm f/1.8 lenses, and a SB-600. It's doubtful that Fort Worth Camera is going to come through with the 18-200mm I'm on the list for by then.

I'm in.
I can bring:
D2x
Nikon 12-24mm
Nikon 28-70mm
Nikon 60mm Micro
Nikon 85mm 1.4
Nikon 70-200mm 2.8 VR
Canon 500D
Kenko 1.4x Teleplus Pro 300 DG
SB-800
A couple tripods and tripod heads...

I also have a full studio setup of 4 AB Lights, light meter, modifiers, etc... That I can bring on request. The above all fits in one bag, this stuff I can bring if anyone wants to see or play with it.

I can also bring my GretagMacbeth 24-patch ColorChecker. Those that want to calibrate their Adobe Camera Raw settings at home, can shoot the card at the meeting, take the results home and calibrate their ACR.

Dude, do you think you could have gone a little further west? I mean there are some facilities in California that you passed up

Maybe we can get a carpool from the east side hood...

Mark? Anyone else North Dallas?

I know, I know, but I have no connections to anywhere else. I'm more than happy to hold it somewhere in the midcities if I can get the name of a place to reserve.

I haven't made the reservations yet, so if anyone has a better facility, please let me know ASAP.

Thanks.

My father use to hold his computer club meetings at the Fort Worth Library. They had a conference room back then and probably still do today.

C'mon Scott, us Fort Worthians traveled to the tiger shoot!

Steve, it looks good for me, I've penciled it in.

Most of my stuff is listed in my profile.

Thanks Paul, but the library is only about 10 minutes closer to all those Dallas/Plano people. I need want a place in Arlington, Euless area. That would be more central.

I didn't say I wouldn't come... Just giving Stevil grief...

Carpool would make it cheaper on gas.

Check out your libraries there and see if they have a conference room. Another idea is to have it at a restaurant that has a way to separate you all from the rest of the folks (Nikon folks need to be separated from the rest of the fine Canon folks)
