Studio Shooting - 10-27-2011, 08:22 PM

Not sure if this would be the right place to post...if not delete or move :)

Either way, I am in DESPERATE need for a job and so I am interviewing/testing for Glamour Shots. Today they (actually a photographer who has worked there only a couple years) told me that I don't have very many variety of poses or composition ideas but I typically shoot kids/newborns/families and not seniors/adults so I am trying to gather up a few "clients" here and there to help me gain some experience in those areas and I am in need of an actual studio. I do everything with natural light in my upstairs loft of my home but I need to practice with strobes and lighting so if anyone is willing to either let me borrow their studio or let me shoot with them in studio to gain this experience, I would very much appreciate it. Being I have no job or clients at the moment, I have not a penny to spare.

At risk of sounding rude (I'm a broke college student, I understand needing a job) but I'd be willing to bet that more places than just Glamour Shots are hiring. Why not get a job somewhere that pays the bills then work to build up a solid portfolio?

Andrew...not rude at all...I have been interviewing quite a few places and calling/filling out apps but I am not having much luck. Most places I am either OVER qualified or not enough experience or I dont have a college degree. So ya, this is one of the places that called me back and let me "test shoot" to show them "my skills" LOL and after pretty much being put down in a snotty way, they are gonna give me another chance to show the actual manager (make up artist was playing manager that day) what I have to prove so I want to actually prove something to the manager. I NEED this job.....or A job more like it and this is the first job I have had that has EVER paid me in double digits PLUS commission even as a photographer.

Wow, I used to work for Glamor Shots way back in the day, and they were actually surprised I had real photography experience lol. It was such an easy job, and we actually had fun whenever we didn't have customers. The hair/makeup people would style us up, and we would take self portraits half the time. Unfortunately, the job was not as much about photography as it was about selling packages. I hated sales (even though I was really good at it), so I quit. Hope you get the job! My biz plan when I was in college was actually Glamor Shots, then someone else came out with the biz and made a ton of money. I hate that lol!

Leslie, no offense to Frisco people, but it seems most the people I have met that either work at Stonebriar Mall or live in or around Frisco seem to be snooty or stuck up and these are what these people seemed like. They had NO appointments that day and the manager wasn't even there and I was doing my "test shooting" when the make up artist (step in manager) griped at me for checking my cell phone because EVERYONE else was too and we had been sitting around doing NOTHING for at least 30 min. We were waiting on the photographer "training" me or whatever to get back from lunch. And then she got onto me for not putting the camera (an Olympus) back where it belongs when I was done shooting....no one told me so I just put it on a safe place on a desk out of reach of anyone walking by who could knock it off. Then they wanted me to COPY their poses exactly and said that is how I should be shooting when I told the photographer that all photographers shoot different and NEVER have the same composition or poses. They mix it up and put their own spin on it. So, ya.....it was one of those types of places and I would much rather work for Walmart Studios than this Glamour Shots if Im gonna get treated like that. Oh well....it is what it is. But sounds like you had a blast where you were.

David, sorry I never got to you. I was busy getting my 5 yr old and myself ready to go watch us LOSE TERRIBLY to the rival team last night and we got there about 5:45 ish and it was loud entire time but will email if that is okay since this Halloween weekend is crazy busy.
