My son is *REALLY* into trains and we are trying to take some photographs to remember this time in his life. Can anyone suggest some places around DFW (preferably in the NE) where we might try?
Thanks,

Try Fair Park in Downtown. They have a small Train Museum. That's my only suggestion.

Google is your friend... try "trains in dfw". http://www.dfwnetmall.com/e-mag/railroad.htm
Might also try Union Station downtown and the stop at the AAC. Amtrak and the TRE pass through there every day.

You might try downtown Grapevine, the Tarantula train is usually there, your son would get to see an old time locomotive.

Also in Grapevine, at the end of March they do Day Out with Thomas. The Grapevine vintage railroad transforms into Thomas the Tank Engine and they have rides, storytelling, etc. You can call 817.625.RAIL for more info. Might be some good photo ops, too!

You might consider taking your son on a train ride on the Texas State Railroad between Rusk and Palestine.
BTW folks... TSRR needs some help. State budget cuts are threatening the railroad as is a proposed Dallas reservoir on the Neches River that would cover the tracks. Please visit the URL below. http://www.texasstaterailroad.com/

There are lots of locations around the metroplex to shoot train photos. You have to be careful because some of the areas might can be dangerous, especially at night. Also, due to security concerns, you may be approached by the authorities, though it isn't against the law to shoot photos as long as you are not on private or corporate owned property.
Here is a link to my North Texas train photos: http://mbwdesign.com/sites/ntrf/
Here is an additional link containing photo locations: http://www.trainweb.org/southwestshorts/dallas.html
You might also want to visit some local train club layouts. I used to be a member of the Texas Northern Model Railroad Club, they are usually there on weekends and welcome visitors. Here is their website: http://www.trainweb.org/tnmrr/
Have fun. | | | |
