Old Barn, House in Ovilla - 12-29-2004, 10:51 AM

I'm putting together a map and some sample shots of an old barn in Ovilla, because it's been one of my favorite places to shoot in the past. I don't know how much longer it'll be there though. I went back on Christmas day and someone burned down the big barn. The house is still standing though.

Do any of you guys ever check out Ellis county? It has some great abandoned spots to check out. I also like to go shooting another house in Waxahachie, that'll be on the map too.

I live in Duncanville just north of Ovilla. I worked Ellis county for over 30 years as a Social Worker and have come upon allot of interesting subject matter. I spent almost 30 years doing natural landscape photography all over the US and South America.

I have all but quit that type of photography for sports, 20 years, and wildlife. I have over 50,000 slides archived. I think I got burned out.

I'll make note of interesting spots I come across and let you know. I also frequent the 17 outlining counties around Dallas and Tarrant.

I have explored the backroads around Mayperl, Ovilla, Granview, Venus, and Alvarado on a motorcycle and the photo opportunities are plentiful. Just take off on a farm road out of one of the small towns and you will find some interesting sights. Navarro County has some rustic areas too.

Do you get out anymore? Can you share with me locations with wildflowers in bloom around the DFW area. I seem to get a lot of wildflowers on the highway medians, but I would like to find a field or three of flowers.

thanks!

I'd be very interested in this map as well. I'm very interested in finding some great photo ops in Ellis County and nearby small towns. Keep us posted.

There is not very many wildflower opportunities this time of the year but before next season I will chart some good sites in the DFW area and post it on the forum.

I'm also getting ready to chart some old structures in the Ellis, Johnson, Hood, Somerville, and Navarro county areas. I have spent the last few months photographing old farm equipment, barns, outbuildings, and windmills in these areas.

Those are some of my favorite places to shoot, too.. although I must admit, I haven't made it out there in a long time. I love "downtown" Maypearl and Venus.
