I need to put my camera in for a good cleaning and was wondering who does the best work in this area? I have thought about doing it myself, but just to scared :)

I like these options
-Best camera shop
-Best photographer that would like to clean it and as payment... share a nice dinner/drinks on me (I might even set up a night gathering for TPF (dinner and drinks) but of course yours would be free)

Any takers? I do require that you have done this several times to canon equipment... and you can't eat/drink more than 10 pounds of food.

Actually, I was about to aske the same thing but in the Dallas area. I'm afraid to do it myself, and one of my cameras has a huge piece of dust on the sensor. I need it done b4 this weekend.

Where you wanting a camera shop?

Otherwise, maybe we will get someone that can do it and will take the dinner option... that way we can kill two birds with one stone... of course it would need to be one night this week to fit your deadline..?

I could use it too and I am in FM! I even have the cleaning supplies already bought, just scared to try it myself!

I'd do it for you guys, but my DAY JOB (a dirty word) keeps me out of circulation all day.
My weekends are booked up solid for the near future.
With Copper Hill as a forum sponsor, perhaps someone would give a demo and instruction to those who have not done it.??????

Really though, if you just follow their very clear directions, and suck it up and try it yourself, you will find that the procedure is not nearly as scary as you think.

If anyone is going to Scott's seminar on Saturday, I'll be there and can help you out then.

Just stumbled onto this thread. Competitive Cameras would be my only choice. They are located near downtown Dallas, and I drive there from the Flower Mound/Argyle area whenever I need camera stuff. I've bought 2 cameras from them and getting ready to buy another. They clean your sensor/camera free if you've bought your camera there and then teach you the proper way to clean it yourself. Don't know what they charge otherwise.

I bet Archinal Camera Repair in Richardson, on Main just east of Hwy 75 can handle the job.

Archinal Camera Repair is from what I've heard the best at this, but I would do it yourself honestly if you're talking about just cleaning the sensor. Go to the store, buy some sensor swabs, dont use homeade ones, and buy the sensor cleaning solution (all camera stores have these supplies), apply a drop or two to the end of the swab and wipe from one side to the other (only once per side of swab if that makes sense...do reuse once you swiped) and take a photo to see if dust spots still appear. If so go over it again with a new swab and new solution obviously. I did mine myself and got about 99.9% of it off my d70 sensor with no scratching or anything. No dust spots appear anymore, but if you use common sense while doing this it would be pretty difficult to mess it up. My two cents. For additional information on cleaning tips go to www.photo.net and use the search area for similiar threads.

I had my sensor cleaned on Saturday at Archinal Camera Repair. He gave me a lesson on how to clean the sensor. I was scared to do it might myself. He showed how it was done. Then I did it might myself. The sensor was real dirty. The sensor is clean now. Make sure you have the stuff to clean the sensor before you call to set an appointment with him. He will give you the details on the cost. It was worth it for me.

Talk to you later.

Alberto

Once you do it though its not that scary right? Reading about it makes it sound like the worst thing in the world to do. It's very simple and you should not be scared to take it on yourself. Just read how to do it, follow the steps, have the right supplies and you'll have no worries.
