I was invited to attend one of their meetings this weekend and I was wondering if anyone was a member. I'm not really sure what they're all about, but my UTA conceptual photography instructor seemed to think I would fit right in with the group. Any info would be appreciated.

What's wrong with you Steve!??! Don't you know you are not supposed to talk about the DPS, after all it's a secret society. Boy I only hope you survive this, what a shame.
J/K don’t know a thing about them, never heard of them before.

First rule of DPS: Don't talk about DPS.
I think they meet in basements and beat the crap out of each other.
But I could be wrong about that. | | | |

Well, I know this... You'll need a baggy cardigan sweater, large cord corduroy pants, rose colored glasses so you can have that "disassociated artist" look as you sip your non-fat, no foam, caffine free, double esspresso (not too hot please) and look down upon your fellow struggling artists. (Note the soothing sounds of a muted guitar playing Sounds of Silence in the background) All of which for whom photography is just one means on which they can exist in the terrestrial world as the seek enlightenment and ponder their existentialism.
Hey, it actually sounds kinda fun.....

For $90, it wasn't a horrible investment, but this will be the last time I take one of these continuing ed courses in photography.

I had never heard of the group either, but apparently they display and critique each other's work. They also work with local galleries to have showings of their members work. This is all new to me. The email I was sent didn't have a whole lot of people on the distro so the group may be pretty small. I didn't recognize any other names on it so I figured I'd ask here to see if anyone was already a member.

oh, you don't have to be near dead to be member -
Here you go: http://premierphotoimaging.com/DeadP...rsSociety.html
The Dead Photographers Society is a group that provides a lightly structured forum for discussion of and mutual learning about the art of photography through demonstration, sharing of ideas, works, critiques and techniques. To assist the members in the realization of their individual ambitions in the media of photography whatever those ambitions may be.
The group meets once a month working off a list of topics to discuss, which members suggest. Those with some knowledge of the subject would teach, or lead the discussion on the topic allowing those with little knowledge but some interest to learn from others. Members also share a wealth of resources, such as: books, websites, vendors, associations, contests, calls for entries, and opportunities.
