I'm in a drought. Nothing much to shoot these days, it'll ramp up here in March but I actually went looking for something to shoot today. After meeting forum member "Richard" (nicest of guys), I ended up in McKinney at the Heard Nature Preserve. I've been there a couple times but never walked around so I thought I would.

If you like shooting wildlife, there's a good deal of it to shoot here. Problem is you have to be patient which I am anything but. It didn't help that I went out at noon. There's nothing out at noon, nothing.

Except this guy who was pretty darn vocal. This is the best I got (dreadful I know) and this was with a 400mm lens.

I like the place, it's very serene. I'll be going back soon.

Well, bored or not this is a cool shot. What I like best about it is I think I could get a shot like that
That is not something I can say about 99% of your shots. Usually when you post a picture I'm like "Damn, I wish I could get a shot like that" but this one I say "Damn, I think I could get a shot like that".

Oh who am I kidding, I probably would not be able to get a shot like that.

I will have to go out to Heard Nature Preserve someday, but I think I will need something longer then 200mm

That's ok, I know it bites. I did like it for the mass confusion of branches surrounding big red and I really wanted a close up but for some reason a lumbering giant walking toward him freaked him out a bit. Go figure.

I'm not into the bird thing but have a ton of respect for those who are and who are successful at it. It's hard work.

Next time you want to get together and not talk for four hours let me know Jake (grin).

I went to school up in Sherman and if we got pretty bored(which was alot) we went to Hagerman Wildlife refuge.
http://www.fws.gov/southwest/refuges...man/index.html
They have this really cool one of a kind tree call the The Tree of Lebanon.
Which I hope is still there right off the road that is the NE entrance. Plus wildlife and pump jacks. Theres a hiking trail i actually helped de-root as part of our service club.
Just a suggestion...
Has anyone been out there? any pics...perhaps I need to visit again soon with weapon in hand.

Here are some teasers.

I like they way you managed to get the red right in the center of the photo. Just kidding, but hear lately it's been tough to get much outdoors. Think that's about to change real soon.
