Beginning studio lighting workshop 4/22 - 03-14-2006, 07:40 PM

This thread will host the information for the upcoming PoloDigital/Greg Daniels Beginning Studio Lighting workshop set for 4/22. There will be a maximum of 12 students. The group will be split into two sets and we will alternate through four different lighting scenarios. Greg and I will switch groups and you will get instruction from both of us.

We will have two models available to shoot. Please be aware that this is a learning session where you may get some good images and will absolutely get some bad ones. We will help you learn how to recognize those mistakes before you press the shutter release. Most likely topics will include a High Key three light, a Low Key single light, a 'standard' two light portrait, and a glamour set.

Cost for this full day session is $100 including a limited TFP style release from the models. What that means is that you may not sell the images made at the workshop without negotiating a full release from the model directly. You may only use the images in your online and print portfolios. I will provide a link to the release in a few days as I update the files for 2006. Payment will be required two weeks prior to the event to secure your place. I will accept PayPal or checks. More details on payment will be issued via email. Please include your email address via PM to me so I can maintain a contact list.

The following TPF members have expressed interest and have priority:
When your name turns blue, I have received your payment.

Waiting list (if needed)

I will update these lists as needed as well as prepare a syllabus and required and optional equipment list. All the studio lights and triggers will be provided by Greg and I.

Thanks again for making these events a great experience for all who attend.

We will start at 9:00AM with a 60 minute introduction/lecture, then break off into two groups for hands on shooting and instruction including setting up the lights, metering, then posing and shooting. The groups will swap instructors and change sets. Break for lunch around noon. Second sets in the afternoon and we should be done around 3:00-4:00PM depending on how the day goes.

A full syllabus and schedule will be posted here as Greg and I finalize the curriculum.

I spoke with Greg last night and I'm sure we can expand this to 14 or 15 and not reduce the benefit to all the attendees. You will still get to shoot plenty of images.

My recommendations for attendees.

A- don't be late, be early. Scott is anxious to teach you everything and gets going immediately.

b- follow the rules of shooting...

c- enjoy the experieince.

Short update...

Greg and I are in the model selection phase at the moment. I will announce the models for this event in about a week. At that time I will also start asking for payment and give you the details on the class.

A question, of the first 12 on the list, would you mind expanding the class to a total of 16? That makes only two more students per group. Shouldn't affect what you get out of the session at all, but I need to know if that is OK. There will still be some on the wait list that won't get in this time, but we'll have another one soon so everyone will get a chance.

Let me know please!

Since no one has complained, Greg and I are going to expand the class to 16. I'm sure you'll still get plenty of opportunity to shoot the models.

I will be announcing the models and requesting payment on Friday.

Thanks for all the support!
