Canoe Trip - 03-19-2006, 09:37 AM

A buddy and I took a trip down the Trinity River a couple of weekends ago. We started just south of Lake Ray Roberts. The Trinity looks a lot different up there than it does here in Dallas.

Thanks for sharing. Have you tried a B&W treatment of the two bridge shots? (especially the bottom one.)

Thumbs up Great Project - 03-19-2006, 04:34 PM

I always thought what a great project it would be to document photographically the 35 miles or so of the Trinity between Fort Worth and Dallas. You've already got a similar start. Congratulations!

Do you have more photos you can post or provide a link to?

I have been wanting to take a Trinity River trip for some time now. Any advice about where to put in and take out?

The south fork of the trinity is very nice near Benbrook. I have canoed it 100's of times including most major rivers in Texas.

It has been a passion of mine for over thirty years. Canoes can be like camera equipment or bicycles. I have bought hand made canoes by Pat Moore and other wellknown builders over the years. They use some of the high tech components like kevlar for lightness and duability.

I still have a handmade mountain bike I bought from Tom Richie over twenty years ago.

Texas Rivers magazine has a list of all of the good rivers to canoe, including the Trinity and Richland nearby. They provide put in and take out locations for all of them.

Here are some more pictures. Just south of Lake Ray Roberts there is a canoe "put in" which is just stairs that go into the water. They have canoe rental and shuttles there too. That means you can pay some one to take your car down river so you don't have to paddle up stream. There was not much of an "up stream" when we went, but with the recent rain that may have changed.

I forgot to mention the "splash" picture is a beaver we saw. That is a good thing about a canoe, you can sneak up on things you normally wouldn't be able to.
