Dallas Flooding - White Rock Lake Area - 03-19-2006, 07:39 PM

A few shoots from today.

First one is of the White Rock Lake spillway along Gaston. Once the storm broke there was a mad rush of spectators.

Business as usual.

The boat house was almost completely under.

Great shots. Been watching the news so I'm glad someone was able to get out there to grab some photos.

Stay dry.

I drove by the spillway. Amazing. If it was always like that, it would be a tourist attraction.

crazy stuff

Excellent shots.

I was out playing with the new video camera, so I didn't have my 20D with me. I'll see if I can get some captures from the video file. I live in GP, and was able to get some footage of I-20 & Carrier Parkway and surrounding areas.

gpbusa, did you go down to bardin? I live in Westchester Enclave, just south of bardin. My uncle just built the house on the back corner of bardin and the creek there. The water was all the way up to his fence. his back yard sucks because it slopes real steep from the house so you can see his whole backyard.....that is until you have a view of a "river". I wanted to take the cam (only have a 35mm canon rebel ) but right when I walked in the door it started pooring again. Maybe next time. Same exact thing happened to me when I was coming home from work Friday night. I wanted to try some pics of lightning, but it was pooring when I got my camera.

Rahb - Yeah, I drove around for about 90 minutes yesterday grabbing short video clips of various places. I think I got some footage of the creek as I drove over the bridge (on Bardin).

Still trying to figure out the video software for the Canon DV... I don't have an SD card yet to capture still images directly. So I may just have to do a screen grab from within Quicktime. If I can get a decent grab from the video (720 x 480), I'll post them in this thread.

Tony

Water is down a lot overnight and just a lot of muck on the west side of the lake over all the trails. Parks Dept was already making major headway and should have it pretty much all cleared up by tommorrow.
Your first pick with all the people standing on the grass by the fence would have been a disaster if that collapse of the retaining wall and about 8 foot in of the ground had occured with them there. Talked to a guy who had been there at about 5 and he said the ground was real mushy and water was coming up through the grass but he never gave a thought to the retaining wall giving way and a big section of land caving in. Parks Dept is fencing off that whole area including the parking lot and the pedestrian bridge.

FOX National News was shooting footage out there this afternoon.

A few shots that I made today. This one shows really how much of that fence line vanished!
