Rats and double-rats ... for the last two months, and for the next three coming up, my schedule conflicts with many opportunities to have some fun meeting all of you folks at some of the TPF functions ... guess I'll just have to enjoy it through all of your eyes when you share photo's here in TPFSpace.

Shooting Art at a show like this can get very touchy. More and More artists do not want pictures taken because the vast majority do not show the art in it's best light plus the lighting in the convention centers usually sucks. Also many artists are worried about having their works ripped off, which is kind of odd because the counterfitters can buy the prints and just ship them off to be counterfitted.

A better show to go to though it is a trip is Indian Market or the Eight Northern Pueblos Show which are both outdoor affairs with the artists doing direct sales.

I have not been to this show in a number of years but the last time I went most of the works were more tourist crap than art and the few good artists had prices way above their quality.

There is also a Dallas Indian Market in the Fall, it has been held in the Arts District, Fair Park and Addison over the years I believe the last 2 years have been back at the Arts District in Downtown Dallas where it started. (couldn't find their website).
BTW I love SW Art with Acoma, San Indelfonso, Zuni and other works in my collection allmost all bought directly from the artists. (We have one member here with ties to the 4 corners area and I bet he could tell you the best places to find weavings!)

I might go Saturday to take pix of the entertainment. Looks like each act is on for half an hour. Probably do the earlier set, which is 11 to 5. Look at the art and eat Indian food, see the demonstrations on weaving and pottery, Holly Dunn will be there with art, not music. Good way to do a Saturday afternoon.

I emailed them to see if there are any restrictions on photography. I may try and go up to this sometime if they are cool with cameras.

Here's her reply:

Quote:
No, we have no restrictions, and I know this goes without saying, but please ask the artists before photographing them or their work. The entertainers may or may not have any rules, but if so, they will state them at the beginning of their performance.

Have a great time - and thanks for asking!

Ok I jusdt got back. IT's a great place for kids but highly crowded. I had to "herd cattle" more than I got the chance to take good photos. Will try to go again tomorrow (sunday) with out my kids. Don't forget we have the canon GTG at 2 at love and war in Grapevine.
