They are very cool out there. I went out a few time's last year and they let all kind of camera gear in, just don't get in people's way. Joe had his 200-400mm and they were fine with that. We need to have group shoot out there, it would be loads of fun.

Some from last year. http://www.pbase.com/thejakestir/horses

Cool, that's what I wanted to hear. Their season starts April 13th so we have a couples weeks. I'm totally for a group outing out there.

My husband and I love horse racing....would enjoy going with you guys. I have some horse racing pics, but they are from Churchill Downs. We went almost everyweek. Here are a few I have taken.......now keep in mind I am NOT repeat NOT a professional.... The last pic was the race right before the big Derby race in 2004. Thanks for letting me share.

I went last year late in the season and could only go at night. My first night I came back with a bunch of dark and blurry photos. I went back the next weekend after doing some research on forums getting suggestions on taking night time shots and did much better but I am still not satisfied. I will try again this season. This is the photo I got. The second photo is after editing in photoshop. My D70 settings with this was ISO 1000, F2.8, 1/250 sec. I have a lot of visible grain with with higher ISO. lens was sigma 70-200.

Regarding the rules, I called LSP before going and asked. The only rule she gave me was that I could not take photos of other people (spectators). Fine by me. I wanted the horses and jockeys. I walked all along the fence taking photos all night without any problems. Obviously I made sure that my flash was turned off at all times. That would have got me in trouble. There was one time when they were coming out of the tunnel on the way to the paddock area and I noticed some a couple of the horses reacting nervously to my taking their pictures. I then realized that although my flash was off, the small focus assist light had been blinking just as I was taking a photo. I quickly turned it off.

LSP....the new venue in my home town...that and nextstage. I'd love to meet some people up there if yall have a get together. I of course have not much to offer, but I could sure take allot from yall's experience lol.

it's kind of like a tape worm i guess.
