Low Altitude Navigation and Targeting Infrared for Night, or LANTIRN, is a system for use on the Air Force's premier fighter aircraft -- the F-15E Eagle and F-16C/D Fighting Falcon, as well as the Navy's F-14 Tomcat. LANTIRN significantly increases the combat effectiveness of these aircraft, allowing them to fly at low altitudes, at night and under-the-weather to attack ground targets with a variety of precision-guided and unguided weapons.
LANTIRN consists of a navigation pod and a targeting pod integrated and mounted externally beneath the aircraft.

for a lot more info than you can possibly ever want. . . .

If this were a candid portrait I would say the subject was "mugging" for the camera.
He had to know you (or someone) was there, and did his thing specifically for you.
As you know, there are regs about breaking before the end of the runway, etc. He must have been stretching a few rules considering his altitude over a populated area and all of that "anti hot dogging" regulation.

I wish I had been there with you, but if only you or I were going to be there, I know I can count on you to get and share the GREAT SHOT......

thanks Captain!. . . . I was the only one there taking pics at the time. . . funny thing, I was about to leave but then I saw 4 of them returning at about 2500 feet. . . this guy did a touch and go and broke off right in front of me. . . just about knocked my socks off. . . was very, very loud. . . But what a RUSH! . . . Usually when they break they do it farther down the runway and more of an upward angle. . .He was the same guy you see waving in the cockpit in one of the above pictures. . .

Great shots Keith! I'm very jealous that you have those types of photo op's in your area. I can't wait for the airshows to start.
