BellBottoms, if that is WhiskeyBoy's first choice. I am on the side of anyone whose avatar involves the display of the long green. Plus, anyone who regularly shoots very little kids playing soccer deserves a break once in a while.
Thanks Joshua for knowing every single place we could meet in the mid-cities. I am not surprised.

REVAMPING THE CAMP: This popular 1960s-themed sports bar and nightspot underwent renovations during the past few months. Among the improvements: a revamped configuration with a central dance floor, outside patio and new black-and-chrome stools and tables. Some of the bar-style seating – there's not a seatback in the house – surrounds the dance area and make good vantage points for watching the crowd in its various stages of inebriation.
OFF-POINTERS: Some details are strangely inconsistent, though. The space is covered from floor to ceiling with product ads and banners, a decidedly non-1960s motif; much of it relates to either NASCAR auto racing or beer. Jukebox tunes (live music is booked each weekend, there are karaoke Tuesdays and other events during the week) almost exclusively date from the 1980s, ranging from disco to rap. The music was so loud that conversation required a craned neck and raised voice. It's best to ignore the half-hearted peace-and-love thematics and consider the place a vibrant spot near the Tarrant County College Northeast Campus with a decent menu; in that light it will admirably fulfill expectations.
A BUNCH FOR LUNCH: Foodwise, Bellbottoms is best known for its $2 half-pound burgers and 50-cent french fries, served each weekday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The restaurant estimates that 200 to 300 patrons take advantage of the deal daily. The menu was adjusted recently to include a more rounded selection of burgers, sandwiches, specialties and appetizers. Among the spot's signatures is a trio of 99-cent Texas-toast sandwiches – grilled cheese, peanut butter and jelly, and peanut butter and banana. The eats schedule is humorous and eye-catching, but it's still essentially bar food.
MEAT OF THE ORDER: That lunch crowd doesn't keep coming just because hamburger prices haven't been so low in 35 years. The product is also pretty good. Our mushroom and Swiss burger ($5.99), easily 6 inches in diameter, was topped with tiny, lightly marinated mushroom slices and came with four ruby-red tomato slices, several full lettuce fronds and crystalline rings of onion. Another plus: the fat, tasty skin-on fries, which arrived unsalted and decently free of oil. There were flaws; the Swiss cheese was runny, and the top of the plain bun had been flattened. We'd order another, though, perhaps the interesting Tex-Mex burger ($5.99, with avocado and pico de gallo).
NOT BUFF ENOUGH: Buffalo shrimp ($6.99) sounded tantalizing: breaded, medium-sized, tinged with hot sauce. We shouldn't have bothered: They were barely larger than popcorn shrimp and had too much mushy coating. The side of potato chips turned out to be two small bags of Lay's.
SUPER STARTER: Our appetizer sampler ($9.99) included an all-fried array of onion rings, mushrooms, breaded mozzarella sticks, jalapeño poppers, pickle coins and chicken wings (each is also available separately). All were at least par for the first course; the peppy, Cheddar-stuffed poppers, the piquant pickles and the light, bite-size 'shrooms scored extra points. But the chicken, barely coated with batter, was a little dry and bland without either the creamy ranch or ho-hum hot sauce that came with.
SERVICE GAME: Our server was cheerful but unaccustomed to pacing a meal; she declared our entrees ready barely two minutes after serving the starter platter. "I'll keep it warm for you, but don't wait too long," she said. As business became more hectic on a weekend evening she began to neglect us as well; the manager eventually cleared our dishes. The entree gaffe may have not been her fault, but polish definitely needs to be applied to rough edges.

If you do not see the big red star on the map: The address is 8407 Grapevine Hwy North Richland Hills, TX 76180-5812 . Use Joshua's link, it shows the spot on Highway 26(Grapevine Hwy) just north of Harwood Rd.
