Tiger Shoot in McKinney

have you guys heard about the TIGER SHOOT in McKinney Tx (just north of Dallas)

its like $20 entry for like 2 hours of up close shooting very early in the morning while the big cats are very active...

i tried to make the trek up there last month but remodeling this house kept me from going. theres a tiger shoot this weekend the 4th and also one dec 18th and jan 8th.

i hoping i can make one of those last two.

I'm hoping to make it to one of the last two shoots as well. Hopefully, the xmas season doesn't leave me broke and dejected, so I can still have some cabbage to take a trip to mckinney.

I'm aiming for the January shoot....

very cool. i had spoke to another local guy that made one of the earlier trips, he drove there the morning of and drove back that same day!

they had to meet at like 6am or something so i know he left conroe VERY VERY early!

OMG ABEL YOU ROCK! i wrote them and they actually put me on the jan. 8th trip!!!!!!! theyr'e meeting at whataburger at 5:30 a.m. i'm thinking i just won't go to sleep friday night. O_O

You will really enjoy this shoot. I have been to two so far and the photo opportunities are unreal. You won't beleive how close you can get to your subjects and they are absolutely beautiful animals.

Its definitely a once in a life time opportunity.

Hey Clayton,

I'm really interested in making the trip. Ali is too. We also might bring a fellow photog friend, so we are making scheduling arrangements right now. In light of that, maybe carpooling might get a little ...um... crowded :)

Maybe instead of a carpool, we can convoy?!? Anyway, this is all pretty preliminary, I will probably have more concrete plans after the holidays. I'll keep everyone posted!

Another thought I had was to travel to McKinney the friday before, and get a cheap motel there for the night. I'm not much of a morning person, and maybe getting lodging the night before will help ease the pain.

Anyone know if there is a hotel or motel close to the shoot location?

Lisa will be making the trip with me and we will also be driving up friday as well. we'll prolly go check out the sites around dallas satuday and may even stay saturday night as well depending on how everything goes etc..

im looking forward to it!

christian, if ali goes let her know she will have a non photographer person to hang with and make fun of us photogs staring into our cameras... hehhe

i'm still going on the 8th, but i'm kind of nervous now since i got a new camera. so i have a question for you guys that have already been, like what settings should i put my cam on? it seems like it would be a complete travesty to take everything on autofocus. :(

I don't think autofocus is a travesty, especially when it comes to sports and wildlife. Actually, I think that Canon autofocus is quite remarkable and will produce great tiger shots. (Sorry, no experience with Nikon but I trust there are others here who can comment on Nikon auto focus.) If I were you I would use center point autofocus and shoot away!

Perhaps there are others here who have gone to the tiger shoots and can comment on whether or not autofocus was used.
