Although I am loathe to try to compete against some of the images I've already seen here, I would be remiss in my responsibilities as a member of the photo community if I didn't pass this information on....
The Dallas Zoo will host its third annual Feathers, Fur, and Scales
photo contest beginning April 4th and running through September
30th. Contest rules and entry forms are available on the Zoo's
website http://www.dallaszoo.org/
Basically, the shot must be taken between now and September.

Thanks for the info, we were going up there sometime in July and I might just try that. That is if my pictures come out half decent!

You should have sold that Jabari shot to the news outlets.. that's WAY better than the photo they were running of him.

I shot that about a week before he was killed and then I gave the Zoological Society a 13x19 of him for their memorial.
I really have a nice collection of shots of him that I had taken over the years.

He was a beautiful creature.. a crying shame.
He looks like he's already working up a mad-on in this shot. :)

I almost always shy away from contests because inevitably the contest rules include a clause that takes all ownership rights away from the photographer.
Not so with this contest... They have limited usage, which I believe is reasonable.
I will make an effort to get over there and take the winning photo. No need for any of you to go out of your way, because I have it "in the bag".

Don't be intimidated to enter - even in the 'pro' class. Last year's winners are viewable at the zoo's site mentioned above. As you can see, they're not anything that the folks here can't equal. Here's last year's grand prize winner. All it took was a lot of patience in the heat of July. (They feed these guys about 1:30 - it's the only time they stray out of their shady nooks in the summer.)
