Bridal Location Suggestions Please. - 05-17-2006, 12:18 PM

Hey guys and gals,
I know this may have been discussed here before somewhere but I was looking to get some suggestions on places for Bridals in the DFW area.

I know the usal:

Dallas Arboretum
Fort Worth Botanical Gardens

Somewhere along the canals of Las Colinas that I have no clue where it is :)

Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks again,

Stephen Gibson

Bridal locations... - 07-18-2006, 12:23 PM

The Aboretum (sp?) opens at 9am. At this time of year it's already getting hot by then, and there are usually lots of people around. The Gaylord Texan is nice, but there is a $500 location fee. The canals look awesome, but does it cost to shoot there?

Personally, I'm much more interested in those "secret spots" - often hidden away in neighborhoods or off the beaten path - that are free to shoot at, offer lots of variety, and don't have crowds to deal with. For instance...

1. In Plano (near the North Dallas Tollway and Legacy) there is a little commerce/community neighborhood with a terrific park to shoot at. Excellent color with very well maintained landscaping. Large pond with a fountain in it. All sorts of shooting options: wide steps, winding pathway, park benches, flat terrace areas. Best of all, there are power outlets all over the place so you can bring lights. I have no idea who controls this park area, but I've shot there twice now (once with my studio lighting) and no one ever showed up to ask questions.

2. In Carrollton (near I35E and Beltline) there is a historic homesite called the Perry Museum. Along with the actual home, is a very rustic barn with nice wood fencing. You don't have to pay to shoot and there's hardly ever people there.

How about some more "secret spots" to shoot at ???

For the record...although very common place for these shots.. Las Colinas is free.. I too am always looking for something new. I don't believe you can shoot inside Bass Hall without a fee or FTW Botanic Gardens/Japanese Gardens..(at least not with a wedding dress on...) If you appear non-professional, the Botanic Gardens (FTW) "police" will typically not bother you.
