First, if you ever want to really see how much of your in-camera settings are ignored, set your camera (if you have the option) to shoot Black & White. When you bring the photos into anything other than Nikon Capture... your photos (assuming you shot in RAW) will all be in color!

You might recaption #4 to My girlfriend/fiance'/wife/ex-wife to be, except for the fact that my daughters make it worthwhile for her to stay in spite of me Julie.

Growing your own models obviously works. They like the camera, the camera likes them.
