was bored on Monday so went with my daughter.
so what is the deal with them charging you 75.00 an hour for having a tripod? needless to say these are all hand held.

let me know what you think so I can do better next time.

$75/hr. for a tripod? Did you tell them to F**K off?

I would have told them that I was in a tragic auto accident where I was hit by a drunk driver. And now I can't hold my arms up too long... and that I would be happy to call the "powers that be" and inform them that the Japanese Gardens are discriminating against "physically challenged" patriotic Americans trying to enjoy Memorial Day!

I assume their stance is the same for monopods?

What? I'm sorry but it's not of their F'ing business what's in my camera bag. And what kind of respectable tripod fits in a camera bag anyway! If they didn't stop me at the entrance and have something posted stating their policy... I would make a stink... which is usually enough for them to back down and just let you through.

The lady in the ticket booth was on break, so the crane thing stepped in. Then he went back to his Koi watching.

You really think that bird was thinking about getting one of those big fish?

They have a little hand written sign that tells you what you can and can't take in. Somethng like

No picnics
No fish food
No tripods

There is a couple of more things on that list, but those were the ones I could Remember

Yep...Those B the rules. Try shooting bridals there.. or the Botanic Gardens...They charge you based upon "the particular garden". Go out there without someone in a wedding gown and you're less likely to get bothered...but anytime they see what they deem a professional shooting, they'll refer you to the business office to obtain a shooters permit and charge you appropriately (or not appropriately as I see it). Thus.. The Botanic and Japanese Gardens have been dropped from my preferred list to shoot...unless the client wants to pay the fees. I'll drive to the Arboretum instead although I am quite bored with that location.

Ugh!

BTW: I need to look into that FTW Camera Club...

I took one of the brochures and in it it says that if you have a tripod you are concidered to be a commercial phtopgrapher and the fee is 75.00 an hour. It does not say anything about a monopod.
I have been thinking about joining the ft. worth camera club so I can learn

Well, if that's published in the brochure... then I guess you're kinda outta luck. I'd try to slip in the monopod though... it's better than nothing!
