I have pictures of Goatman's Bridge aka Old Alton Bridge which is in Denton county near Copper Canyon. The bridge is closed to cars but is open to hikers and horses. I will have to find those pictures. BTW the link didn't work for me either.

Here's the link again, not sure what happened. It works fine from the email I received, so maybe some characters or something dropped ...

Here's a photo I took tonight of one of the bridges. I submitted the GPS coordinates to Abel to add to the Photo Locales.

Bridges no more - 08-04-2006, 02:19 PM

Sorry folks if y'all missed this, the wonderful state of Texas has decided that these bridges are not needed anymore. A big crane came along and removed the bridges. I've heard the state is still trying to decide what to do, until then, the bridges are now sitting on the ground, and the road ends at the creek, waiting for new concrete monsters.

That is such a shame. I hate to see these relics of the past destroyed. I wonder if they intend to relocate the structures at another location. Like a park or hike/bike trail...!

Paul -

I don't know. I called the contractor so I could try to find out the schedule of transporting these off, thought that would make some good photo's for the local paper. Anyway, I asked him what was the schedule and plan ... and his reply was that the state still hasn't decided beyond "removing" the bridges, yet what they plan to do next ...

If I hear of anything, I'll pass it along.

In Bridgeport when they remove a bridge like that they put it back together in the city park. Not near as pretty with the big trees but at least they aren't just taking them to the scrap yard.

I went this past weekend and took some pictures of the old alton bridge since it is only 5 minutes from the house I am going to use it for more shots.

These were my first attempt at natural lighting with spots of shade next time I will bring the flash and AC

sometimes farmers can buy these bridges to improve their access to their own lands. they end up on private property at times.

depends on what the gov. owners decide to do with the structures, and I suppose, the bids that they get.
