is there any in the DFW area that ISN'T by the side of a highway?

i've been volunteered to shoot the 2006 ferret calendar (well, some of the shots anyway), and we're looking for a field of bluebonnets far from a highway to shoot a ferret or two in the bluebonnets.

As some may know, ferrets are, well, sneaky and slimy creatures, and would escape at a moments notice - and we don't want the ferrets running onto a highway...

so any suggestions would be great as to where we could find some. Ferrets aren't big animals, so even a smallish patch would be fine :)

thankee :)

I know nothing about the area around Dallas, but here's a site with some information that may or may not be useful.

You could try the location we used for this morning's model shoot... its near 114 and Kirkwood in Roanoke.. but it is far enough from the highway (and even the road) that you could wrangle them.

Bluebonnets - 04-11-2005, 10:04 PM

I recently checked two places I found from this wesite, in a different forum (See thread called "bluebonnets")

Here are my thoughts: Zion Cemetary, just north of the Colony, has plenty of spotty areas, but nice-sized enough to get some good pics. It was pretty busy all week long with people taking pics. I went Saturday, but didn't have luck because of the sun and wind. I'm going back tomorrow at sunrise. It should certainly be far enough away from the road. Directions provided from the thread follow:

"here is an old cemetery just north of The Colony, which is a great spot. Take Main street north out of The Colony; follow it out until it "Y's". Veer to the right on to FM 423. The cemetery will be on the right, on the side of a hill. Lot's of bluebonnets are there, when in season."

Someone also suggested the Plano Nature Preserve. I wouldn't recommend this site. Lots of great blooms, on steep hills right next to the very busy road. Much of the actual preserve is under construction, so no good.

Hope this helps!

P.S. - Zion Cemetary is about a 45 -60 minute drive (with no traffic) from 75+635, where your signature mentioned you're at.
You would probably go North on 75 to 380, West on 380 to FM423 , South on FM 423 and then some.

Near Alliance Airport (Fort Worth) on the service road off of I-35. We took our pics there and it is far enough away from the highway. Believe me, neither me or my wife are interested in putting our family on the side of a dangerous highway. If your interested I can find out the exact exit.
