F-18 photo pass - 06-23-2006, 07:56 PM

When I visited VFA-201 back in May, I told a bunch of the pilots that if possible if they could dip their wings at takeoff, it makes a much better shot that the usual side profile. . .low and behold I think one of them did that this afternoon. . .

The only way you could have a better shot would be to be flying alongside him. What a great capture: frame it, for sure!

BTW: Next time you talk to them, tell them to take off their helmets on takeoff so we can see their smiles.

Keith. He's definitely looking for you.

I have often wondered if there was any way to identify the pilots, and offer them prints of them in their birds ????? Perhaps through your contacts you could establish some sort of conduit for those of us who get some shots at the base. I'd be happy to print some large images of some of my better shots.

Yeah, I saw that this morning also. . . sad, hopefully Washington knows what they're doing. . . seems a shame to break up such an outstanding unit. The pilot I met up with for my tour hopes to stay at the base and hook up with another unit there, VR-59 . . he'll be going from flying F-18's to flying 737's. . .

I'll bet the pilots would like that. If you contact the squadron duty officer with the time and date, he should be able to locate the pilot via the side number of the aircraft. The records would go back for awhile. If you knew someone in the squadron, it would be very easy.

Great shot of the F-18!
