It is a memorial to the Confederacy that is located in the old Pioneer Cemetary just north of the Convention Center. Dedicated June 25, 1896, photos taken June 25, 2006.

I bet even the big history buffs and Civil War buffs in Dallas didn't realize that it had been 110 years since this memorials dedication.

Ain't much around Dallas that is nearly that old! Couple dozen buildings, maybe under 100 homes and I can't think of any monuments at all in town that date back before 1896.

Try going to the Greenwood cemetery on Oak Grove just off McKinney Avenue, by the McKinney Avenue Transit Authority car barn. There are some very old monuments (by Dallas standards) there.
