Tractor Pull in Whitewright, Texas - 06-30-2006, 11:21 AM

Here's a link to some info about this weekend's tractor-pull in Whitewright. While you're in the area, check out the old Odeum theater, it's not near a cinema-plex, but it was remodeled to reflect an old time movie theater house. The lobby is fantastic in itself.

Some photo's from Tractor Pull - 07-02-2006, 11:47 AM

Here's a few of my favorites from last nights tractor pull - next time gotta wear some ear protection!! After I heard the announcer comment about the $40,000.00 aluminum head on a 6-cylinder diesel, I came to the realization that that $6,000.00 400mm f2.8 doesn't seem too bad ... yeah, right.

Hope y'all enjoy viewing these in "quiet" ....

Wyatt & QR,

Thanks, the noise was unbelievable, there's a lot of ponies under them hoods, the stands were vibrating pretty badly when they roared by ... even with high iso (1600) I was shooting my 50mm f1.4, and with a reasonable shutter speed I still got some camera shake ..

RandySmith To bad I didn't look here before I went, would've tried to hook up with you. Was on the same side standing against the fence. Told myself not to forgot to bring my ear plugs with me. I forgot them, I'm an idiot.

Have lot to learn when it comes to shooting a fast moving object in the dark.

Was there for the diesels, was glad the went first while there was still some light.

2000+ hp at rest. Since this guy is from Iowa & I grew up in Iowa he was my favorite, lost by ~ 9".

#2
2000+ hp at work, just a little unburned fuel coming out the exhaust.

Same pull as your #5 shot, this is one of my good night shots, used a 580ex.

Used a 30D with a 24-70L

Andrew -

This was the first time I ever went, I was with some friends up in the stands so didn't try to use my "credentials" to get to a better spot. Next year, I'll try to hook up with the organizers and try to get in the infield. I saw several folks out there near the checkered line with some P&S cameras, so suspect if I present my credentials, I might get a better position with a tripod and longer lenses.

Nice photo's. Love the lady holding her ears in the last one, tells the whole story.
