i've been there three times. AMAZING and a lot of fun. Go when it's green and don't mind if you're car gets dinged up by antlers and pecked by austrichs (sp?). Oh and buy a big bag of feed if you want things to come close. Well worth the drive/money.

During the drive, are you allowed to get down for photo opp? Or is there a stop along the drive for photo op?

you stay in your car the whole time. you're not "supposed" to get out. doesnt mean you cant i guess. trust me you'll have plenty of good pics from the car. animals swarm you. this was taken with a little point and shoot but this gives you an idea ofwhat you're in for.

haha...yeah I guess you should stay in the care unless if you want to encounter with the animals face to face...hahaha.... I was hoping that you could get off the car and setup tripod to capture scenes.....I am trying to see if this could be my practise run before my Kenya trip.

couple more point and shoot. this is a great shot haha. face is priceless.

feeding directly out of the bag is a no no, but those damn birds are crazy. is was get pecked or let him have it. the bag ended up getting stuck on his head as he ran around for about 20 seconds. of course i drove away laughing.

this guy at one point had his whole head in the car. antlers (huge rack) and all. velvet is the craziest softest thing you'll ever touch. i wanted to take him home with us.

Some one on here said that they were a docent at FM for a few years.

I think the photography tours are a complete different animal than the normal drive through the refuge. Not sure if they let people out of the vehicles but I bet they are in some sort of open body vehicles similar to those used in safari tours.

They told us to throw the food on the ground and not feed them by hand but we did anyway. Here is video with my wife feeding the deer. She would go every weekend if took her. It is at bottom of page. the website is under construction. looks bad at the moment.

I have recently been in morning, middle of day and evening. I thought evening was best. It takes about two hours to drive through so find out when the gates close. I think it was seven.

You can get in the back of a pick-up truck and set your tripod up there. I saw two kids in back of pick up last time. (I checked, it is okay) They stopped at the giraffe and fed it. If someone was scared of giraffes and was in back of pick up there would be no where for them to go. The giraffe can lean all the way across the pick up bed.

I did a semi-organised photo trip there a year or so ago. Robin Holden organised the whole thing and did a great job. The only thing that didn't co-operate was the weather but the staff at Fossil Rim were great.

they do offer some private tours, (feeding tour, jeep tours, and few others) if enough people would be interested I could do a drive by on my way home from work and get exact prices.
