I need a location too! - 07-14-2006, 02:32 PM

It's possible I'll be shooting a male model in the near future. I need practice working with people and he needs some shots for his portfolio. I'm looking for cool locations to shoot at that won't cost me any money. If anyone has sample shots of locations they've shot at and liked, I'd love to see them.

Thanks for the help :D

Are you talking urban, country, burbs... How about a general theme.

There's always Deep Ellum, but I bet you want to be a little more original than that

I'm actually pretty open when it comes to the theme - but I lean more towards urban. Not necessarily ghetto/grafitti urban (though i do enjoy that look, so feel free to recommend locations), but also sleek, industrial design elements. For country stuff I would be more interested in a nice wooded area, a wheat field, a secluded pond with an old pier... things like that as opposed to tractors and barns and the like.

Really I'm open to just about anything :)

Rather than using Deep Ellum, maybe using some of the old brick buildings down near the West End? some of the buildings Near El Centro college would be interesting as just bricks to lean on or act as background, then there are the Dart Stations for a different look. There are even some nice green areas over near the Convention Center.

Check my portfolio here for some locations that I've shot and see if any of those places interest you. Most are in the Tarrant County area but many can be pretty "edgy".

There's a thread here (somewhere) about shooting at the Canal in Las Colinas. It is a really nice place for backgrounds, buildings, water, footbridge, etc. There's always the Mustangs a few blocks away.

There are some interesting buildings, shapes, plants, colors, (Santa Fe and Taos type) out at Solona on 114 in Southlake/Westlake.

For someplace close to you as practice, run by Westlake Park over on Kearney in Mesquite. It's not the end all to end all but a nice small lake with a big fountain in the center and a lengthy bridge over one end, a well kept small dock, a couple of gazebos, the "office" house with a nice porch, several nifty trees with vee's, and best of all, it's free. A small resident population of duckies but unlike City Lake Park, they don't mob you if you have food in your hand.
I shot my grandson's soccer team pictures out there and it's pretty darn nice for a "small" local park.

I second the West End, it's a great location to shoot - go in the afternoon for great light. There's also the Medical Arts district south of downtown Fort Worth at the Intersection of 8th and Magnolia - just head east on Magnolia and check out the cool old run-down buildings. :)

Dokk - wow, the TP Warehouse, Swift Ruins, and Baker Hotel are awesome. Great images you captured there. Where are those at and did you have problems getting in?

Thanks!
