OK I'm on a Bonnie and Clyde Kick now - 07-20-2006, 07:00 PM

I've found a few buildings where B+C either lived at or worked at or their locations and where Clyde is buried and took some pics and will be adding more over the coming weeks as I fan out further and further in search of the truth about B+C!

Biggest Discovery so Far was that Clyde in 1930/1929 and maybe before lived at 601 Liberty which probably was either a side room or a carriage house room of a nice home on Swiss Ave in either the 2700 or 2800 block and that a Cafe that Bonnie worked at was just a couple blocks away-closer than the 2 Cafes that she worked out near the Court House. Cafe Where Bonnie Worked was in this building-have yet to find out exactly when she worked at Hargraves and for how long.
Corner of 600 Liberty and Swiss- the home there now may not be the original since many victorian homes were moved to a few blocks back in the 1980's but you can see where the cafe was a few blocks down.
Clyde worked at a Mirror Company in this building on the Swiss just a few blocks down from his house and he also had a job in a shop on Main Street that did car roofs which was just over from the Ford Plant on Canton which was also a short walk which leads more creadence to his living at 601 Liberty. He also worked at the Proctor and Gamble Plant on Lamar and may have stayed with a relative on Lamar while working there-the location is now part of Gilleys Night Club. Found out today that he worked for Nu-Grape Soft Drink Company which was on S Ervay in the 1700 block which would have been walking distance from the Lamar location in the 1400 Block.

Bonnies Mom lived here which was on Lamar just across the street from the above listed address and that was in 1932 or so, she also lived a couple blocks south on a Cockrell which is just one block east-Bonnie even wrote to Clyde from this address at one point when he was in prison.

Clydes grave is in this cemetary noted by the Texas Historical marker- no I did not jump the fence since all the gates were locked and I don't know the exact location of the grave but the cemetary is rather small-maybe 500 by 250 ft at most.

Turns out one of the deputies that ambushed them in La lived just a couple blocks down from my house.

Ahhh...you need to shoot Bonnie and Clyde Bridge in what is now Southlake (then Grapevine) where they shot and killed the cops transforming them from popular bank robbers to notorious cops killers. Also, on the corner of Exchange and North Main in Ft. Worth, they stayed at the Exchange hotel, tops floor. southwest corner room so that they could look all the way up main to see if the cops were on to them. Supposedly, a pistol of Bonnie's is in a display case in that room.

I'll have to talk to my sister, who is a big Bonnie and Clyde history buff. Legend has it that they stayed overnight once in an old hotel in Emory TX (where my sis lives and where I grew up). My sister actually bought a chair from the room they supposedly stayed in. The most unfortunate part of the story is that the city tore down the old hotel recently because no one wanted to restore it. I'll talk to her and see if she knows of any other hole-in-the-wall places they might have visited in their heyday. :)

Well I know where the gas station is that Clydes Dad ran, and I know several of his other work addresses now and I will get pics of those. I also know the schools that Clyde and Bonnie went to and that she lived in Cement City for a while-that area is being developed big time now and all of those houses are long gone. Never did figure out why they lived in Cement City since that was a company town with Portland Cement Workers living there while Bonnies Dad died when she was but a child and her mom did piece work. Now one of Clydes Brothers sewed cement bags shut at the plant but they didn't know each other back then so that is a ? that I still need to resolve-maybe her dad did work there before he died I just don't know.
I know where Bonnie is Buried and that cemetary is open-actually just a couple blocks from where we buried my mom- so I will get a pic of Bonnies grave in a few days.

The 2 other cafe's that bonnie worked out downtown are in buildings that I believe are long gone but one may still be standing since it was right on the edge of the area we call the West End now. She may have had other jobs but i am not sure at the moment. I may end up doing some research at the Downtown Library because I do know that they have an extensive collection on B+C.

There are a bunch of the old Travel Court type motels still standing along Ft Worth Ave around where Clyde is buried that represent the style of places that they would stay at when they did grab a room for a night. I've read that when they were moving they would many times just catch short naps at night in the car. I've been on the road where the ambush occured-pics are on slides somewhere- but I really would like to find the bridge that they ran off of, it was being worked on, that caused the bad burn to Bonnie Leg when the car rolled and the hot muffler landed on Bonnie. I believe the bridge is in Missouri or Oklahoma and the accident occured less than a couple months before they were ambushed Bonnie had a burn to the bone in her leg and it really messed them up on being able to travel and that is one reason that they had gone to NW Liousiana to hide out and heal up at a new drivers dads farm. The dad is the one who set them up to be ambushed that morning, he did some logging and he is the one who put his old truck on the side of the road knowing that Clyde would recognize it and slow down.

Very cool project and great information. Is the road where the ambush was carried out in Grapevine somewhere?

I know there is an old shack on a farm in Flower Mound that they used as a hideout. I have it in a book somewhere, I'll look for it's location and post it or some photos.

Yeah I need to clean the sensor-will do it in the morning and since I will be going by a couple of the locations I will reshoot them.
Bonnie and Clyde were killed on a small state road south and east of Shreveport, closest little town actually has a celebration every summer and had a big one a couple years ago on the 60th anniversary.
Decided to try to document some of these locations before they are torn down or burn down or are just forgotten.

Has a lot of great info but some of his recent pictures are not the best.

Posted this in your other thread, but since the question was asked here:

This location is at Dove and Hwy-114 in Southlake. Just off 114 towards the east.

I have read that they hung out at a store on the corner of 114 and White Chapel which is one exit east of Dove. The store is no longer there. There was a Texaco there and a flea market behind if for a long time. No longer.

This may be of some interest. This Farmer's and Merchant's Bank building in Pilot Point is now an antique shop. Stop in and see Wes, the owner some time. The Bank was used as the site of a robbery in the movie. It appears briefly. I don't think this bank was actually robbed by B&C.

Found out that Clyde worked at The Brown Cracker & Candy Company which we know now as the West End Market Place. This would have been a quick trolley ride to an apartment on Lamar, though no records have actually come up that he would have lived on Lamar in my search.

Found out that an Independent Movie Company is making a remake of Bonnie and Clyde but they are based out of Alabama and I do not think that they plan to shoot any locations in Texas which is a shame. Why can't they actually shoot back here where it really happened? There are enough buildings in the area that are of the period still standing in Dallas, yes some movie magic would have to be done to remove modern surroundings and bring some of the locations back to the period but what the heck.

(BTW that other thread was lost in the Hack Attack) Glad you reposted the marker.

It is also rumored that the First Bank of Rhome was robbed by B&C. It is now a Wells Fargo.
I used to live in Aurora (the site of the Alien burials, but that is a different story). I actaully had an account at the bank for a while.

Rhome is small town in Wise county at the intersection of hwy 287 and hwy 114.
