Who's going to the Circus next week? - 07-23-2006, 04:46 PM

We've not been in about 3 years so I figured I'd take the family to see the circus next week at the AA center. I did some research on www.americanairlinescenter.com for camera gear restriction. I was planning on taking my Canon 20D and 24-105L for the pre-circus pictures with the clowns and such, and hopefully some shots of the show.

I found the following on AA's web site

Quote:
Professional cameras are prohibited at all events in American Airlines Center unless accompanied by appropriate media credentials. Cameras withouta flash may be allowed for some events. Cameras with lenses that are 4 or more inches in length are NOT allowed. Video cameras and audio recorders are prohibited in American Airlines Center unless specifically approved. Please check in advance by calling 214-665-4299.
Is my camera considered professional? I measured the 24-105L, and it is almost 4 inches long so I think I'll be fine. Do you think I'll have any issues? I don't have any other camera to take.

Well, my trip to the circus was complete. We went on the opening night to the AA center, and all was well. I was able to bring my 20D (without grip) and my 24-105L. It did get some long looks by the check in people, but no one said a thing to me about it. I thought about bringing my 580ex flash for the pre-circus show, but I thought the big flash with the camera would make it look "too professional", so I left the flash at home. Turns out I saw a couple of people with their big external flashes on, so evidentally its not a problem.

Just thought I'd let everyone know the result. I'm pretty sure if I had the grip on the 20D or a lens bigger than the 24-105L on it, then it would not have made it thru the check in.

If anyone goes to the circus dont forget that there will be protesters outside so that might make for some quick PJ shots.

Canon 1.8 with D20 in AA Center - 07-28-2006, 09:14 PM

Last February I went to see free motocross at AA with monopod D20 and heavy gun like 1.8 :-)) it took about 1H to get clearance with security. When I opened my bag they jump on it like mad dogs. Finally they let me in and still during the show I was bugged twice, So is not easy with this setup to make it. But here are results.
