Talking Photographer(s) needed for an Event - 08-08-2006, 09:49 AM

We will be shooting an event in Grapevine next weekend and I need a couple of additional shooters.

It is a inside event (that is a plus in Aug)...

The event will require low light skills in a performance environment ... (sports shooting background would be helpful also although this is NOT a sports event )

You need to have a fast (2.8) tele-photo zoom and at least 6MP body

No direct pay but you will get 50% of images that you shoot that are purchased (so you could make a few bucks)

ALSO

We would need someone that has a portrait background to help out Friday and Sunday

ALSO

If you know of anyone that wants weekend work to help us with the administrative tasks Friday Saturday and sunday 9 to 5 let me know. 10.00 per hour for this

You can PM me here or email at photos@imagefusionstudio.net

Ooooh.... I'd be all over it EXCEPT that thingie about the f/2.8 lens. The camera gods have not yet blessed me with one of those.

No zoom lenses that would work for that my largest aperture lens is my 50mm f/1.4.

What are the exact dates? I assume you mean this coming weekend. if so, bummer, I'm on vacation.

Actually not as much a "bummer" as "sorry I'd miss the opportunity".

What is the event? Exact dates? I may be able to help out depending on the weekend. I need to visit my brother anyway who lives in the Dallas area.

Hmm, maybe I'm missing something, but why would anyone do this?

You want them to come work all day and pay them nothing. Then for any photo's that they take, you will get 50% of what they make?

Please excuse my ignorance, but I'm not seeing the why people would do this?

It's for experience and portfolio-building, basically. You get experience shooting an event, contacts with other shooters, you can start building a 'rep' with your main shooter, etc. There are things more important than money to someone who's just starting out.

Ok here is more information:

This is a 3 day bellydance show held at the Grapevine Convention center 18th 19th and 20th of August. We are doing "studio" portrait mini-sessions sessions all 3 days from 9a to 6P (booking up FAST) There is a show each night that will have performers ranging from student groups to headliners. My studio is the official photographer for the event ... there are no other "photographic sales' permitted. I have been shooting this event for 3 years and frankly it is getting a bit large for the 2 of us to do alone. This is the 3rd largest annual bellydance show in the country (actually it is one of the largest dance events in general) and now is drawing international talent. The work from this show will be seen globally.

The lighting for these shows is theatricial (this is why the fast tele is required). And the movement is FAST (if you have never seen a bellydancer dance imagine shooting say hockey with theatrical lighting)... this is high consentration work and NOT as easy as it sounds...

We will be using 2 to 3 photographers for the performances - one center and one angled for each corner of the stage ... we will post the best 10 to 15 of each performer (20 to 30 performers per night)

I really want to focus my team (myself and my other "staff" photographer) on the portrait sessions and after 8 hours of session work we are not going to be able to lift a camera let alone shoot worth a darn... so for the first time I am reaching out for help...

That being said, we will likely shoot Saturday as that is the "main" show with most of the national talent.

I have been in contact with media (DMN and Star Telegram) so they know that publication level images will be done at the shows and there are a couple of other mags that used my stuff last year

The trick to this is delivering high quality in a very demanding enviroment... the photographey team will cover each other but we have to deliver top flite stuff.

(BTW I am doing simular shows in October and January for different promoters. So the reputation is taking hold!)

So if you are still interested ... please let me know ... including where I can see a sample of your work.
