Dallas Skyline Lens? - 08-08-2006, 05:41 PM

Which lens should I take for the Dallas Skyline shot from this location:

Downtown Dallas Skyline
Parking garage at Methodist Hospital
1441 N Beckley Ave
Dallas, Texas 75203

I've only got these but I will rent something if necessary:

50mm 1.4
18-200mm 3.5-5.6
28-70mm 2.8

...On a D200 (1.5x crop factor)

Thanks!

Anyone of those should work just fine. I used a 80-200mm with a tripod and stitched this pano from 4 or 5 shots, I don't remember how many exactly .

Any problem with security chasing you out of the parking garage - that is, not allowing photography from there without permission? That happened to me in Ft. Worth at the parking garage near Bass Hall.

Really? I've shot at the parking garage next to bass hall a few times and never had any problems.
Anyway, we did not have any problems with the Dallas spot but we did have a cop with us when I went

The last time I was there was with a big group, and then went back later in the evening alone. Saw security both times, and they did not seem interested in me.

Ft. Worth has the Bass cops, and they get a little possessive at times.

Have fun, and I hope there are some big cumulus clouds to the east for you.

Well... you don't want to shoot from the hospital for a while... there are two HUGE construction cranes in the way... someone should put that on the information about this location!!!

Oh... and I specifically "blew out" this photograph to make the cranes obvious... for this post.

Hilarious! I was there probably about a half hour to hour ahead of you - and I was there less than 20 minutes, so I shouldn't have had to pay anything for the parking garage - but with no attendant on duty it still cost me a buck to get out. Oh well, guess we'll just have to check back after the contruction is finished - but wait, does that mean there's going to be a big building in the way in the future? I ended up on the levee on the Trinity near the Fina station on Industrial - but got out of there pretty quickly when I heard voices from underneath the bridge.

Yes, I had to pay a $1 too. Ya know... I didn't think about it until now... but a photo from the top of the crane would be really cool. Hard to set your tripod up... but cool nonetheless.

I was in that general area but not right by the hospital but I do know that there is a lot of construction going on around the hospital still.
