Arrow Historic Eighth Avenue - 08-13-2006, 03:30 PM

This block of historic homes on Eighth Avenue in Fort Worth's Medical District includes, from left to right, the Irion House (1910), the Winfield Scott House (1909), and the Mitchell-Schoonover House (1907). All of these fine buildings have been restored and converted into lawyers' offices.

Dallas has Regal Row. Ft. Worth has Legal Row.

I took your image and modified it just a little. May I post it?

I still want to get over there and get a close look at the Winfield Scott House. Should of known it was lawyers. Still looks better than what it was before.

The sky bothers me, but I don't know how to fix it.

Green, green & green - 08-13-2006, 08:22 PM

Interesting adaptive use and WAY better than tearing them down.

Is it just me, or do all three homes have essentially the same green color scheme and why? Even in B&W they are all the same shade of grey. I wonder if the same contractor did all 3 renovations? Very interesting.

John, that's noise from my P&S Sony F707 which doesn't show up in color but does markedly in b&w. The only solution is first to denoise the original-size photo, then convert to b&w. Here's mine:

I think I like the color version better.

I agree, Bruce. The color is better because, well, it's colorful. :-) The only thing I did here was open the shadows some and crop.

Wow, green houses and green grass. Neat. I wonder if they work extra hard to keep the grass green so it highlights the paint. I wish I could increase contrast and saturation in my front yard.

Love old houses like these. Don't know the specifics of why these are all shades of green, but I live in a 1916 house in one of the historic districts in Dallas and my guess is that if these are in a designated historic district, they had to be painted with a color that would have been in use at the time. We see lots of greens, tans, dark reds, white and soft yellow in our neighborhood.
