Lightning photos are very hard to get. It is an accomplishment just to get one!

awing.....

that lighting trigger device is kind of interesting....not very expensive either...
(I'm wrong....it's $329...OMG...O_O...I thought it was $58 in the subprint...
photography is an expensive hobby!!!)
is it still very hard to shoot after using the lighting trigger?

Steven, you have one very interesting web site there. I hope you'll post some examples of recent work on the forum sometime (I haven't looked yet to see if you already have).

Fun stuff!

Not sure exactly what you are asking. The trigger sits in the flash shoe and is connected to the camera via 10pin cable (which the trigger guy will custom build for you if you want). To use the camera normally all you have to do is turn off the trigger (it's powered by a 9 volt).

One thing about using the trigger (and this is a Nikon thing) is that when it's working you can't review the images on the LCD. You have to turn off the trigger to play back photos. It's fun because you never know what you end up with until the end.

I meant, how come only one shot out of 67 exposures turn out to be good?
(after using the lighting trigger...)
wonder how were the rest 66 images look like...

Whoops, sorry. Me stoopid.

Most the throwaways were when the lighting was out of my field of view or behind a cloud. The trigger is very sensitive so even the smallest flash will set it off.

thanks for the followup...
I might pickup one of these since there're many lighting opportunities during late summer
I really wished I had the trigger when I was out the west this June...
I remember I was standing in the rain for 15min with hundreds of exposures just to try catch the lighting....of course...came up with nothing...

Ok, so I don't have a DSLR yet, but, if my Fuji E550 can set to 3sec exposures, and set to "capture last 4", and the whole sequence of shutter finger down won't time out for over 2 minutes...won't any DSLRs do that? (finger lifts only when lightning appears in optical screen)

Find mine here.

It was the one and only time I tried it so far. Seems I have 12 seconds to lift my finger after seeing the flash through the optical viewfinder. This was one of the three that flashed in camera view.

For a higher hit rate, you could by a Strikefinder and point toward the red dots.

Now that's cool! It reminds me of the alien tracker in the movie "Aliens". I guess all I need them to do is make it handheld and reduce the price by five grand (grin).
