Help locating site with animals - 08-30-2006, 11:39 PM

Ok I have a shoot coming up on Sept 9th that I am considering a couple of options on the location. I know I need in a studio for part of it. However, the other part is a Pocahontas size shoot. Don't ask, it's what the model wants. So can somebody suggest a location that has Buffalo, or maybe a coyote? Are coyote's tame at all?

I have some idea's for a studio option for this shoot. However, you don't know if you don't ask the question right? I suggested that we PS in some things but I wanted to be thorough.

Thanks!

contact Bass Pro Shops or Cabelas and see if they have any options for coming in and shooting with some of their display animals. I would guess not, but it wouldn't hurt to check.

call some taxidermy shops and see if they have any ideas.

Try contacting the Fort Worth Nature Preserver - http://www.naturecenterfriends.org/

It's a nicely hidden little place in the middle of a city. They do have buffalo, but I have no idea how close you'd be able to get to them, or their policy regarding photography. You may be able to go there ahead of time and get some shots of just the buffalo and PS them into a blank landscape scene with the model.

I would second the Fort Worth Nature Center. Not sure how "pretty" the scenery is right now but they definitely have buffalo.

I noticed a few weeks ago while driving I20 just before Canton, a Ranch on east bound side of highway, he had buffalo, giraffe, zebra,...and many more. There were several cars parked on shoulder of access road taking pictures and feeding animals.

Sorry I dont remember the name of the ranch.

There are buffalo at the Fort Worth Zoo, at Fossil Rim Wildlife Park in Glen Rose, and at Natural Bridge Wildlife Park in San Antonio. I have no idea how you would get the client and the buffalo in the photos, without using Photoshop.

You may be able to find someone with a pet coyote.

The ranch near Canton is a great place for the shots you are after.
For saftey sake, I would take the pictures of the animals alone, then add your
model pictures in PS.
Good luck !!
