Critique on Outdoor Lighting .. Plz... - 09-10-2006, 03:22 PM

Shot my first wedding 09/02 ... outdoors & all biker attire 580EX on full auto. Other than cropping & playing with black & white versus color. Any recommendations on better use of my new flash, DOF or a preferred lens size? I found my first major hurdle inside the bar where the reception was ~ bar lighting sux! I shot all day with my 18-50mm Sigma.

I had a blast & they are very happy with all their photos ~ but still being a newbie & unaccustomed to folks wanting to pay me for taking photos .. I'm always looking for suggestions. Anyone else shot any biker weddings? I'm looking for more ideas for shots as I was fortunate enough to be asked about doing more in the coming months.

Certainly something to think about, but I would fear that would be too much to wag as this was constantly on the move .. other than exchanging the vows on the bike. Ride in entrance by the groom, ride off after the vows, etc. Thanks for your reply Kent.

First suggestion - get that camera off auto mode!!! Get control of your camera and play with the settings. An outdoor sunny wedding like that I'd be in ISO100, and probably run in Av mode around f/4 to f/8.

Strokers?

Not that I've ever spent a lot of time there

Fun place if you prefer two wheels.

I hear ya eoph. I'm still very green at this [less than a year experience]. I have the fortunate/unfortunate luck that when folks who dont use DSLR technology see our vacation photos - they all think a pro shot them because they dont know any better And now they are all offering to pay me for what I shoot.

So for me, I didnt want to risk "fiddlin" with the damn camera too much to miss the shots. I am working on it though. Additionally there was virtually no sun under the canopy that covers the back lot where we were shooting so it was more a question of flash settings that I'm interested in. That was ISO400 at f/8.
