Plano Balloon Festival - Ghost? - 09-23-2006, 11:49 PM

This looked a little strange tonight on the LCD screen. Look just above the balloon. Is it Lens flare, smoke, or Ecoplasma? This is a real shot with no additional processing or any kind of editing. Tell me what you think.

Technical Stuff:
Manual Mode, White Balance=Incadescent, ISO=800, 1/25 @ F5.6

Do you have a link to a larger version?

For the record, my initial guess is smoke.

I hope that this appears larger.

Looks like smoke or vapor of some sort to me. The color is strange, but barring the paranormal, that's all I can think of.

That's lens flare from the flame just to the right.
It's inverted and flipped L/R, which is typical, causing it to be located diagonally from the source.

Bright lights inside the middle third of the frame are often ghosted.
Those further out will reflect to a point beyond the sensor/film, depending on your lens.

Looks like lens flare alright. Do you have a filter on your lens?

The light just to the left of it is the bright light on the ground. You can also see the ghost of that rectangular light at left over to the right of the balloon in the sky area.
