Aerial Photography Assistant Needed - 09-24-2006, 06:24 PM

Occasionally we have a difficult assignment and I am short either a photographer or a pilot. I am looking for someone who can help fill in as a photographer from time to time when we need it. This will be about once per month.

It does not pay a lot, you would receive about $50 for 2 hours of your time. But it is a lot of fun, you get to fly in a light plane, and you can add aerial photography to your resume. We will provide the equipment, and the rights to the photos will belong to Custom Aerial Photography. You can reproduce the photos for your own marketing and website if you wish.

Requirements:
1. Proficiency with Canon EOS 20D
2. Can drive to, or arrange transportation to, Mesquite Airport (Mesquite, TX)
3. Available ~10am-2pm with a few days notice. Can be on Saturday or Sunday if schedule requires.
4. No prior history of air sickness or aversion to general aviation (small, light planes).
5. Must weigh less than 180lbs. This is a passenger weight limitation in our smallest aircraft.

Preferable skills:
1. Proficiency with Pentax 6x7, or other medium format film camera
2. Prior experience shooting from an aerial platform
3. Prior experience using gyrostabilizers

If you do not have the Preferable Skills, we can teach you. But those with these skills will move to the top of the list.

If you are interested, e-mail directly to savitale@customaerialphotography.com

Hmmm... I miss on the weight and camera requirement. But...I hold and A&P and a FE rating, over 3000 hours in KC-130's, another few thousand on BBJ's, G-IV's, CL-604's, does that help?! Kidding...

Shot with a gyro a few times out of the Herk. Worked great and thought about getting one for myself. For wedding photogs these would be great! A little heavy, but very cool once you get the hang of it. Which units are you using, the Kenyon Labs ones?

Yes, the weight requirement is a bugger, but you know how it goes. We do use Kenyon Labs gyrostabilizers. Are there any others?

I'll keep you in mind in case we ever need to take photos from a Gulfstream...

The Kenyon's were the ones we used. I wasn't sure if there were alternatives, but these were pretty cool.

At one time we were going to try to rig one up from an old gyro compass system.... Probably would have made the Darwin Awards.

Did you guys see the "Megaflyover" project about aerial mapping Africa? Interval timers on a couple of Canon's (I believe) and they charted a pretty good chunk of Africa. Lot's of images and then stich them together....

Need help with the STC mod?

$ 25.00 per hour. I think my insurance would go up more than that if I started doing aerials again. The last time I flew aerials when we landed and the pilot touched the brakes, the left brake locked and we started doing a hard left turn off the runway. Thank goodness he had the presence of mind to keep the right wing up or we would have ground looped.
