Nikon 10.5 mm Lens - 09-28-2006, 01:59 PM

I am going to the Albuquerque balloon fiesta in October and thought it would be neat to try out the Nikon 10.5 lens while they are doing a Mass Ascension during the first weekend. I was wondering if there is anybody going out there this year that might have the lens I could use to get a few shots with or if anybody would be willing to rent me theres for the week. I am not sure I would use one enough to justify buying one but that might be an option as well if I can't find one to rent as I have tried the usual camera stores around and nobody has that one to rent.

Thanks
Cory

Cory I think that 10.5 will give you a bit too much reach if you have it on a full frame camera body, it may work with a 1.5 crop factor body.

If you do use it you will want to be in the very center of the launch field on the second round so you have balloons in the sky already along with the others in various stages of launching.

Now it may be a great lens to get up close to some of the special shapes being launched during the week.

Cool thing about ABF is that you are right on the launching field and as long as you are careful and considerate you can pretty much almost climb into the basket of some of the balloons if you clear it with the pilot and their launch crew.

I don't know if I am going to go this year or not yet but you will see plenty of photographers out there since at one time this was classified as the most photographed event in America.

The Mass Ascension is cool since they do the launch in multiple stages to get the numbers of balloons launched that they do.
